Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite!
Bed bugs are back on the rise in the U.S. They are increasingly being encountered in homes, apartments, hotels, motels, dormitories, shelters, and modes of transportation.
Bed bugs are flat, reddish-brown colored, with flat, oval-shaped bodies. They are sometimes mistaken for roaches or ticks. They cannot fly, but can move quickly over floors, walls, ceilings, and other surfaces. Females can lay up to 5 eggs a day, and 500 in a lifetime.
Bed bugs prefer to hide close to where they feed, and will crawl several feet to obtain a blood meal. They can hide in the mattress, box springs, headboards, floor baseboards, chairs, sofas, nightstands, picture frames, switch plates, and more. Initial infestations tend to be around beds, but can become scattered throughout the room, and spread to adjacent rooms.
