OPC Pest Control - Mosquito

Fight The Bite

Mosquitoes suck, literally. OPC Pests Services’ mosquito control service target these pests, so they don’t target you.

Summer’s biggest pest is most active in the warmer months of April through September, when you tend to use your backyard the most. Our Mosquito Management Program provides for a monthly routine service schedule during these warmer months. We’ll treat the landscaping, foliage and foundation around the property with a residual adulticide to reduce the population of mosquitoes in their resting sites. We also treat any mosquito breeding sites on the property with a larvicide to help prevent larvae from developing into adults. This program is a very effective way to take back control of your yard.

Mosquitos Are a Real Threat. Know The Facts.

  • Mosquitoes are, in fact, the deadliest creature on Earth. They can carry dangerous diseases like Malaria, Zika, and West Nile. More deaths have been reported as a result of their bites than any other animal.
  • Not only are they dangerous to humans, they pose a health risk to dogs too. Mosquitoes are carriers of dog heartworm, where parasitic worms invade and live in the arteries.
  • Female mosquitoes can lay up to 300 eggs at a time and produce 1,000 to 3,000 offspring during her entire life. Usually, the eggs are deposited in clusters on the surface of stagnant water, or they’re laid in areas that flood regularly.
  • There are over 3,000 different species of mosquitoes throughout the world; currently 176 species are recognized in the United States.
  • Mosquitoes hibernate. They’re cold-blooded and prefer temperatures over 80 degrees. At temperatures less than 50 degrees, they shut down for the winter. The adult females of some species find holes where they wait for warmer weather, while others lay their eggs in freezing water and die. The eggs keep until the temperatures rise, and they can hatch.
  • The bumps from mosquito bites are caused by saliva. While one tube in the proboscis draws blood, a second pumps in saliva. Most people have minor allergic reactions to the saliva, causing the area around the bite to swell and itch.

Easy Prevention

Here are a few tips you can do around your home to help prevent mosquitoes.

  • Replace all stagnant water at least once a week.
  • Protect your dog or cat with a product made especially for pets that repels mosquitoes.
  • Remove trash from around any standing water.
  • Regularly clean gutters, downspouts, and drainpipes of all obstructions so water won’t pool.
  • Screen windows, doors and other openings with fine mesh.
  • Use insect repellent containing DEET on exposed skin anytime you’re around mosquitoes.
  • If you have a tarp covering your boat or grill, adjust it so that water won’t pool in any area
  • Repair leaky pipes and air conditioners that cause puddles to form for days at a time.
  • Fill in any low lying areas or depressions in the yard that may hold water with top soil and seed or sod.
  • Flip over any flower pots, outdoor storage containers and kid pools, when not in use
