Keeping America Beautiful

OPC and A-Action have made it a practice to support the communities they live and work while still keeping the country in mind. Whether it’s hiring veterans or donating their time and resources, they recognize that at the end of the day, America is the greatest country in the world. So, when a fellow pest control company, Critter Control, comes to them and asks, “want to help keep America beautiful?”, OPC jumped at the chance to show up for them and the community.

Turns out, Critter Control was being pretty literal. They were teaming up with Keep America Beautiful, a national nonprofit organization that works with local affiliates, volunteers, public agencies, and corporate partners to reduce litter, increase recycling, and improve communities across the nation. We believe everyone deserves to live in a clean, green, and beautiful community. Together with their nationwide network of affiliates, they support local programs that bring people together to care for the places where they live.

These efforts demonstrate a simple but powerful idea: when people come together to care for their communities, meaningful change is possible. That philosophy spoke directly to how OPC and Critter Control like to work. Both companies know that we’re all better together, so even though they are both owned by the same parent company, Rollins Inc., nobody sits alone when it comes to cleaning up the environment.

So, OPC stepped up. And while they were excited to make sure to keep America beautiful, working with another Rollins company was a nice perk. Jason Siordia, Service Manager for OPC & A-Action put it beautifully when he said, “Meeting and working with members of the Rollins family brought a wonderful opportunity to see the blending of work culture and experiences. I am proud to be a part of a team that makes it feel more like fun than work, especially when we can come together to bring forth a positive impact to our community.” It’s clear the team at OPC knows that keeping communities clean is bigger than just one person, or one brand. Jason even said, “I look forward to the next opportunity to work with Critter Control and other brands of the Rollins team!”

And he’s not the only one to feel that way! When we do stories about the team at OPC giving back to their communities, it’s usually difficult to get them to talk about it. They seem to embody the concept of doing the right thing when nobody is looking. But, this particular act seemed special to the team and plenty of people wanted to talk about it. Robert Alderin, Service Manager for A-Action Pest Control, had similar feelings about this saying, “It felt great to be able to support Critter Control and be part of something that gives back to the community. Being able to work alongside another Rollins team made the experience even more meaningful. Opportunities like this really highlight the strength of our teams and the impact we can make when we come together outside of our day-to-day work.”

OPC’s strength is clearly in its unity, and they live it every day. It’s nice to find two different companies with such similar values, too. Tavis Alcock, OPC Branch Manager told us how the two companies came together a while ago. Travis said through a mutual, overlapping event, some teammates of OPC had “developed a relationship with the Chicago area District Manager for Critter Control, Francisco Cibrian.” So, when he and the team were invited to them in the opportunity, it was an immediate yes from everyone. Travis noted that the Critter Control team came to the Spring Valley Nature Center event put on by Keep America Beautiful and the Schaumburg Park District in Shaumburg, Illinois, which is right in the OPC footprint. But it wasn’t just locals. Travis said the OPC team was joined by Francisco’s team along with other members of Critter Control from as far as Atlanta and Pennsylvania. The teams spread new mulch around a playground, planted flowers for a pollinator garden, and pulled invasive weeds called Garlic Mustard (which, truth be told… sounds delicious).

Travis also said that it “felt great to be involved and invited to assist Critter Control in their charitable efforts. OPC A-Action has always been involved in charity and customer outreach opportunities. This was just another opportunity to continue what we have always been proud to do. We are happy to have reached out to build this relationship with other Rollins Brands and look forward to doing more of the same in the future.” When people (and brands) come together, they can make a truly heroic impact. Putting aside competition or, let’s be honest, capitalism, people can do amazing things. We need more of that these days. And we’re proud of OPC, A-Action, and Critter Control for embodying what it means to come together and go above and beyond.
