Overseen by Trinity Allnut-Craig until Branch Administrative Specialist, Melissa Bonavita-Jones took it over mid-2025, the Acts of Kindness crew at OPC have donated their time (and more!) to plenty of charities and those in need. Giving back to their communities is not just a part of the company’s values – it’s embedded deep in each team member’s heart. This charity, though, was extra worthy, extra emotional… and made the team extra happy to get involved.

It’s safe to say, we all have a story of a connection to cancer. It’s a sad truth, but one that can have a happy ending. Even those that don’t end happily can still turn into a cause that brings chemo patients a comforting ray of sunshine during a very difficult time. That’s just what the Sunday family did when their mother, Teri, passed from cancer.

In honor of Teri, they gift chemotherapy patients with a “Teri’s Chemo Bag.” These bags include some of Teri’s favorite things that would sooth her during her treatments including energy drinks, snack, mints, comfy socks, and more. What a wonderful way to remember and keep Teri’s memory alive.

Renee Sunday, Teri’s daughter, just happens to have been the mail carrier for the Milford, OH OPC branch for the past 3 1/2 years. She happened to drop off a flyer last year and the team at the Milford branch knew this was the perfect charity for the Acts of Kindness team to get involved in. Melissa in particular wanted to help.

Melissa’s father passed away a little over two years ago from pancreatic that had spread to his liver, lungs, and brain. He unfortunately wasn’t able to tolerate the chemotherapy and after a difficult family decision, he decided not to pursue treatments. While her and her sister were fortunate enough to be by his side as he took his last breath, they were robbed of all the time and milestones he has missed. So, when the chance came to help those undergoing chemotherapy treatments, Melissa raised her hand.

And so did MANY other OPC teammates! So many that when they decided to show up for Melissa, Renee, and the rest of their community, they were quickly able to meet Renee’s goal of donating 60 bags to The Christ Hospital Outpatient Center in Cincinnati. Through donations by the team itself and the company matching it, they were not only able to donate the bags but they were also able to leave snacks and drinks for some of the staff that often get overlooked. The nurses and staff act similarly to the OPC team – they are brave in tough situations, they put the needs of others ahead of their own, and they protect others. The team at both OPC and the Christ Hospital Outpatient Center just call it doing their job. We like to call it making a heroic impact.

Melissa was touched and so happy the team came together like they did. She said, “Helping Renee and her family lets us all give something back to the community and helps to make the process a little better for the patients.” She was so thankful to everyone. OPC as a whole would like to thank the team, too. For always showing up, always being remarkable, and truly making a heroic impact on the communities where we all live and work. Great job all!
