Packing Meals, Feeding Children

The team at OPC is all about showing up for each other, our customers, and our communities. Besides keeping their friends and neighbors safe from pests, they also like to donate their time and efforts to local charities that have similar values to OPC’s. What better value is the one that says take care of the children?

So, they turned to Feed My Starving Children. FMSC is an organization that centers on feeding the most vulnerable of this planet’s population in a sustainable way that helps communities move from crisis to stability. They have built a vast network of partners to make sure these nutrition packs reach any community in need. The charity offers a way to provide help to those in need beyond our own neighborhoods, service areas, and communities. Last year FMSC provided 382,120,176 meals to hungry children, and since its inception, they have provided over 5 billion!

The team at OPC particularly likes how the charity – like OPC – likes to put the needs of others ahead of their own. But they particularly like the Feed My Starving Children meal-packing events. They had participated in some with other organizations, but this time, they wanted to have their own.

So, Faith Regan, Branch Admin Specialist, and Jessica Baumann, Inside Sales Associate, came together to rally the troops. That was the easy part, though, since so many OPC teammates raised their hands to help.

At the end of the day, almost 20 OPC teammates donated their time to the event. They put their heads down and packed away. Jessica said, “The OPC North crew absolutely crushed the goals set by Feed My Starving Children! We packed over a pallet of meals during our pack time and had a blast getting it done!” In fact, they packed a total of 241 boxes, over 52,000 meals, and ultimately will feed 142 kids for a full year. Those numbers are humbling, but they are also remarkable.

Faith was so proud of everyone that participated, saying, “Seeing our area come together to feed so many children in need was a great way to kick off our busiest season! A big thank you to everyone who came out for Saturday’s Feed My Starving Children event. You guys absolutely crushed it!” But she also has a challenge for them, “Next time we go, we need two packers at our station!” OPC as a whole would like to thank the team, too. For always showing up, always being remarkable, and truly making a heroic impact on the communities where we all live and work. Great job all!
