Almo, Kentucky is a small, unincorporated community in Calloway County with a humble but interesting history. Although its exact founding date isn’t known, Almo emerged in the early 1890s when a rail center was established there by the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway – a development that shaped the community’s early growth. A post office was opened on February 11, 1891, under the name Buena, Kentucky, and on November 18, 1892, it was renamed “Almo,” possibly as a nod to the famed Alamo from the Texas Revolution. For decades that post office served as a local hub until its closure on August 15, 2022.
